And anyone else who did not recognize "the song" in the post below. It was more commonly refered to as it is heard in this English version. The fact that the Japanese wanted the German version makes it all the more ironic.
Lorrie, You are killing me with this video! I had no idea what song you were talking about because while I am a child of the 80's, I was a CHILD in the 80's.
I never knew the words, just always sang 'nah nah nah, nah nah na.' Look at me, getting smarter by the minute!
PS: Nena has some MAD DANCING SKILLZ in her pleather pants. MAD.
I read your post below then saw this one with the video. That story was nuts! I was expecting something very bad at the end but almost fell off my chair laughing. That was a great story!
Just so you know Lorrie - I had THAT song in my head all day long yesterday & when I woke up it was still there. I thought it as finally gone, but now it's back! Apparently, there is a new version out too -- redone by some new, hip band that I'm certain I've never heard of (and whose name I cannot remember). One of my 'hip mom' friends has it on her iPod (sorry, I have lots of 'hip mom' friends - this one has teenagers).
I almost spilled my Kahlua and coffee this morning when I opened this up at the office and saw the vid and my name in lights!
Now I understand why I didn't recognize that song the first time around. She is actually singing "99 Wed Bawoons", which is exactly how I remember it. What were those Asian people talking about? For God's sake, speak Engrish!
BJ, I did not have that 8-track in the back seat of my Gremlin btw. It was Meatloaf and you know it!

Sadly I remember this song (and the German version) ALL too well!
Love your story. Love the vid. Thanks for the reminder that, compared to Nena, I really CAN dance!

The eighties had the best pants, didn't they?
